OUR ROLES

Putting structural geology into mining

Structural geology underpins many aspects of mineral exploration and mining: from the location and geometry of an orebody to the stability of a pit wall. Too often the geological foundations of a mineral asset are not adequately established, leading to poor targeting results, poorly constrained or inaccurate Mineral Resource estimations and inappropriate mine designs.

Tektonik strives to provide clients with advice and solutions developed upon a robust understanding of the geology of a project. When tailored to a project’s specific requirements, this offers a strong foundation on which to make informed decisions.

Maximising value

Poor or inappropriate geological data collection in mineral exploration and production settings is wasteful and expensive. Moreover, it prohibits the maximum potential of an asset to be realised, be that due to a missed exploration opportunity or the inappropriate characterisation of an orebody.

Tektonik can help its clients by providing guidance in streamlining data collection to ensure fit-for-purpose, high-quality information is recorded, avoiding wasted man-hours amassing large redundant datasets. Through integrating datasets, Tektonik’s geological interpretation and analysis can help unlock the value of an asset by extracting as much critical information as possible, with no stone left unturned.

Providing insight

A comprehensive understanding of the structural geological systematics of a project can help to predict the likely geometry and nature of the subsurface with a higher degree of certainty. Tektonik’s strong technical skills and significant project experience allows us to gain a comprehensive insight of a project’s geology, which we strive to translate to our client’s benefit.

Our clients

Tektonik engages with a range of clients with interests in mineral exploration and production, not limited to:

  • Mining and exploration companies
  • Investors, or potential investors, with an interest in a mineral project
  • Mining consultancies requiring niche expertise in structural geology for a specific project

key personnel

Chris Bonson PhD, CGeol

Chris Bonson is Structural Geologist and Director of Tektonik Consulting Ltd. based in Wales, UK.

Chris has been undertaking structural geological studies in or around the mining industry for 25 years. Following several years of post-graduate and post-doctoral research, he spent 13 productive years with SRK Consulting in Canada and the UK. In 2017, Chris left the position of Principal Consultant to establish Tektonik Consulting Ltd.

Chris’ work concerns the practical application of structural geological analysis to a range of mineral exploration and production-related issues. He is an accomplished geologist, skilled in field, open pit and underground geological mapping and structural analysis of a variety of datasets (drillhole, geophysics and geochemistry). Additionally, Chris is a power-user of cutting-edge 3D modelling software, GIS packages and specialist structural geology software.

As a consultant, Chris has undertaken commissions on most major commodity and mineral deposit types, for clients ranging from the smallest junior explorer to the biggest mining houses. His work has taken him to over 40 different countries and more than 100 individual projects.

Chris is a Chartered Geologist with the Geological Society, London, and is eligible to act as a Qualified Person or Competent Person under certain international codes for reporting exploration results and Mineral Resources.
